Well unless a non-glossy screen is an option I won't be getting one.

In fact until they do my current Core 2 Duo iMac will be my last Apple - period.

I don't need my computer to also double as a mirror.

    And no, I don't want a mini, or a laptop, and I can't afford a Pro.

    Umm, ok.

Really, though $100 million isn't all that significant to a company with reserves like Apple has, vs. having a possible patent infringement hanging over them that could, given a ruling against them, cost much more.

Maybe not, but why do I think Apple could have bought the entire company for that kind of dough?

I'm considering canceling an iPod order I placed yesterday and switching it to the red one. Not that I'd know the difference.

Thinking of getting this for my mom. The top of her needs are 1080p YouTube videos, will they run smoothly?

I'm very happy about the gapless playback, and battery life, but generally all these updates are pretty disappointing.

Pretty much sums up my mood hours afterwards. At the time, I was flaming pissed/disappointed. I'm pretty much utterly disappointed by this event.

But this iPod was almost "expected," from a business standpoint. Full screen iPod and iPhone; anything short of a 60/120GB iPod lineup and I'll see it as a huge letdown.

    Steve's pre-Holiday event's bar is set at infinity +1.

    I blame the no-show turtleneck sweater. :D

Most likely. I'm not a betting person, but Apple usually rolls out new pro machines during these types of events and what better way to show off the MBPs running C2D than a demonstration of Aperture 2.0. :)Yeah I agree. This is likely the time and place for the MBP C2D - Finally.

Normally Oprah tapes a ton of shows over the course of a few weeks, and they are edited and aired over the course of a couple months. So the idea of "tape today, show tomorrow" seems unlikely to me -- for one, they would have to be assuming Absolutely Nothing Goes Wrong during editing.

It could happen, but it seems too quick to me. Alternately, maybe they taped it earlier.

How are you MBP owners liking your Thunderbolt port? Do you feel like someone with a DVD disk in 1975?

it has a trademark. also see my previous post, and the linked tweet - apple frequently rejects apps for containing representations of iPhones (including hand drawn images that are not copyright by Apple). That's the point.

    Ah, sorry. I misunderstood.
You do have to realize though, they can't haul you over to court for drawing an iPhone. All they can do is not allow your application in the App Store.

Which is a bummer, of course. Hopefully, with enough developers quitting because of the unfair limitations, Apple will realize something, and will bring light to the issue.

If ditching the 320M and switching to an i-processor boosts battery life even 10%, I think it will be worth it.

People who want to play modern games on these systems should already be aware of their limitations; sure, a graphics downgrade is a bummer, but the Intel IGP is good enough for most general productivity needs. And it's already been proven to handle 1080p out.

The general sentiment that the 2012 will be an improvement on 100% of the internals is likely accurate. However, there are four changes that will make this a 100% buy for me:

    1) Backlit keyboard (my biggest hope).
    2) Larger SSD. 90+ GB base (128 would be most likely, I reckon), 380+ GB BTO.
    3) +10% Battery life. An extra 30 minutes to an hour would be spectacular.
    4) Core i ULM processor.

Very true, but in the end, USB2 won out.

Cere, on page one, you DID state that TB would (a) be mac only and (b) die and you've been backtracking terribly ever since.

When you make a statement such as "unfortunately, also bingo" you are giving your full endorsement to that statement and you have accepted that as your own opinion with no ifs, ands or buts. In case you've forgotten, you gave your full endorsement to this quote:

    USB3=native to all platforms
    TB=Mac Only

    Sounds like TB just died.

Since then, you've argued that what you really meant was that PC manufacturers wont support it (without proof to back up your claims) and made poor comparisons to Firewire.

Let's compare the two for a second:

    FW was pushed by Apple
TB is being pushed by Apple, but more importantly Intel (whose chips power most PCs)

FW had a high per port licensing cost
TB uses a royalty free port and support will be built into future Intel chipsets (making PC implementation virtually inevitable)

FW was slower than USB on paper, but faster in reality
TB blows USB 3.0 out of the water, both on paper and in reality

Why do you keep insisting they are the same and will share the same fate? On top of that, as I mentioned earlier (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12392173&postcount=63) (and no one, including yourself has attempted to refute) TB isn't even a direct competitor with USB, it's more of a complimentary technology. You've done nothing in this thread but blow hot air.

If Apple wants to be competitive on a hardware and software basis Apple will have to make sure they release the best possible Intel Processors they can get their hands on. Apple really needs to release Core 2 Duo products by september, they could afford to stockpile chips in the G5 days but now it's Intel and the competition is releasing products with similar specs as Apple.

    MacRumors
    Aug 28, 12:03 PM
    http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com)

As expected, several laptop manufacturers (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3963) have released the first of the Core 2 Duo (Merom) based laptops today.

Dell, Toshiba, Samsung and Alienware announced laptop models which utilize the new Core 2 Duo processors.

Apple, however, has yet to announce a Merom/Core 2 Duo upgrade to their laptop line (MacBook and MacBook Pro), but several rumors (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060814180417.shtml) suggest that these upgrades will come in September.

Historically, Apple's processor upgrades have been tied to Motorola/IBM's PowerPC upgrades which have generally been less frequent and less public than Intel's. With the switch to Intel, Apple may have to provide timely upgrades to remain competitive with Windows-based PC manufacturers.

back here in the UK Hoover were able to trade mark Hoover as their name despite the fact that hoover is the generic term for a vacuum cleaner!

Well, we ask for a "Kleenex", not a tissue.

We drink a "Coke", not a soda.

We use a "Band-Aid", not an adhesive bandage.

We like to "Roller Blade", not inline skate.

Although we don't "Hoover" here in the United States, I think "Hoover" falls into the "Coke, Kleenex, Band-aid, etc." catagory in England.

I think we'll see the New C2D MacBook's appear on the Apple.com homepage on the 19th, and the following Monday at the event, Apple will announce the New MacBook Pro's with the MacBook style keyboard, and the magnetic latch. As the MacBook Pro is wider, it will get very light magnets at either end of the displays too, to hold it neatly shut.

I doubt we'd see the MB first, since that really wouldn't make any sense.

I think we'll just see the MBP as a press release update sometime between now and this event, and then probably an Aperture update at the event, possibly along with other software stuff.

MB updates will probably be some time after.

These congress critters do remember that they swore an oath ... right? Something like..

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States."

Strange how gutless, worthless hypocrites on both sides of the political spectrum only do so when it's convenient to their corporate and special interest masters.. otherwise, they all seem to get off on using it like toilet paper.

These apps, and the data they distribute, are protected speech. Period. I just hope Apple has the guts to tell these schmucks to f-off.

I guess the good news is that these schmucks have already solved the energy crisis, the 2, no I'm sorry, 3, wars we're in, unemployment, the decline of the US in basic education.... They must have, to be wasting our time (yes our time, they work for us) on this BS.
